Slope Safety with RC Mowers

How the RC Mowers R Series protects crews, speeds up difficult work and improves profit potential

Steep slopes, retention ponds, roadsides, ditches and overgrown embankments are some of the most difficult areas to maintain. Traditional mowing methods can place operators on unstable ground or require several employees to work through thick vegetation with handheld equipment.

The RC Mowers R Series offers a safer and more efficient approach. These Remote-Operated Robotic Mowers are purpose-built for steep slopes, hazardous areas and extreme terrain.

Keep the Operator Off the Slope

The biggest safety advantage is simple: the operator does not ride on the mower.

A trained operator controls the machine remotely from a safer position while the mower handles the difficult terrain. This helps keep crews away from steep, unstable areas and reduces exposure to hazards such as falls, rollovers and biting creatures. RC Mowers specifically positions the R Series around safer working conditions and keeping people out of hazardous terrain.

The remote-control system is designed for precision, ease of use and safety, giving operators greater control while allowing them to maintain distance from the most difficult parts of the jobsite.

Complete More Work with Less Labor

Slope mowing often requires several employees using string trimmers or brush cutters. The work can be slow, physically demanding and difficult to schedule when labor is already limited.

The R Series allows one operator to complete work that may otherwise require an entire crew. RC Mowers notes that work requiring five to seven employees with string trimmers can be reduced to a single operator using one Remote-Operated Robotic Mower, while also reducing the amount of time spent on the job by about half.

That means fewer labor hours on each property, less physical strain on employees and more flexibility to move crew members to other revenue-producing work.

Turn Difficult Terrain into Profitable Work

Safer and faster mowing can also create new business opportunities.

The R Series is built for work such as hillsides, retention ponds, dams, levees, roadsides, landfills, ditches and rights-of-way.

Jobs that were previously too dangerous, too slow or too labor-intensive can become valuable specialty services. RC Mowers positions the R Series around reducing labor needs, improving efficiency and creating opportunities for high-value niche revenue.

For contractors, that can mean taking on more jobs with the same workforce, increasing capacity and creating new opportunities for profitable growth.

Meet the R-52 and R-60

The R-52 and R-60 are the main models in the R Series, giving contractors, municipalities and public works teams two options depending on the size of the job and the amount of ground they need to cover.

The R-52 features a 52-inch cutting deck and an overall width of 74 inches, making it a strong choice for tighter access points, narrower slopes and jobsites where maneuverability matters. The R-60 steps up to a 60-inch cutting deck and an overall width of 82 inches, providing greater cutting coverage for larger slopes, open embankments and bigger commercial properties.

Both machines are built specifically for difficult terrain. The R-52 and R-60 can handle slopes up to 50 degrees without a winch and cut through dense vegetation and brush up to 1.5 inches in diameter. That makes them well suited for jobs where conventional mowing equipment or handheld tools may be slower, more labor-intensive or expose workers to unnecessary risk.

They’re engineered for a wide range of demanding applications, including hillside and steep-incline maintenance, wetlands and swamps, retention and water treatment ponds, dam and levee embankments, landfill slopes, roadside mowing, right-of-way and pipeline reclamation, and fire fuels reduction.

And despite their slope-mowing capabilities, both the R-52 and R-60 fit on a standard landscape trailer, making transportation between jobsites straightforward.

The choice comes down to the job: choose the R-52 for greater maneuverability and tighter access, or the R-60 for a wider cutting path and greater coverage. Either way, both are designed to keep the operator in a safer position while tackling terrain that can be difficult to maintain with traditional equipment.

Available to Buy or Rent

Whether you need a permanent addition to your fleet or a machine for a specific project, RC Mowers R Series machines are available through Owen Companies.

Buying can make sense for contractors, municipalities and departments with recurring slope-maintenance needs. Renting can provide added flexibility for seasonal work, one-time projects, backlog reduction or businesses that want to put an R Series mower to work before making a long-term equipment investment.

Protect the Crew and Improve the Bottom Line

Slope safety does not have to come at the expense of productivity.

The RC Mowers R Series helps remove operators from some of the most dangerous parts of the job, reduces dependence on large crews and allows difficult mowing projects to be completed more efficiently. That can mean safer working conditions, greater productivity and more opportunities for profitable specialty work.
